The First Week of Kindergarten

Whew! I have the first week of Kindergarten behind me! It was really nice to have a three day week too. I have a precious class this year and we are off to a great start! Here are some highlights from the first week of Kindergarten!

The week kicked off on Monday with Meet the Teacher.

Here is my door! The inside says "Mrs. Chesworth's Class Clowns" and each child has a spot with their name on it. Later in the week, I took I picture of each child dressed up in silly circus gear to go on the door. You will see one of my sweet clowns later in the post!

Here I am ready to be met!

I always have a Meet the Teacher Scavenger Hunt for parents to complete with their child. It includes things like help your child find their table spot and cubby, find the restrooms, etc. I found the idea on Pinterest and I just tweak it a little each year! I also always make a Step Right Up board so parents can donate any extra classroom supplies that we need. This year I ordered a circus cupcake stand ($6 on Amazon!) and printed what I needed on cardstock with circus graphics of course! It was really easy and cute!

The last thing on the scavenger hunt was to come find me for a hug and surprise.
I gave each child a little tub of cotton candy. You can read more about it HERE.

Wednesday was the First Day of School! I set up a little circus tent photo booth for first day pictures. I made it out of plastic tablecloths!

Me! First Day of Kindergarten, take 3 as a teacher!

I loved how the pictures turned out! And I have the cutest twins in my class!

Of course, we had some first day jitters! Jitter Juice did just the trick! I loved this idea from Babbling Abby at The Inspired Apple.
Clearly, Jitter Juice was a hit!

I even got First Day of School flowers from my husband.
So sweet!

The rest of the week was fun too!
We made some Classroom Promises and signed our names promising to follow them.

I also took each child's picture in circus gear!

This little angel is a teacher's child, so I have permission to share her! These pictures are on my Class Clowns door mentioned above.

We worked with Play-Doh this week too! Another teacher's child brought enough Play-Doh for the class (THANK YOU! THANK YOU!) so each child was able to choose their own container. I taught them how to make a snake family with their Play-Doh.

Next week we will start turning those snakes into the letters in their name!

All of our writing was super simple! We read Pinkalicious and the New Teacher. The kids wrote my name and drew a picture! Here are a few of my favorites:

This is one of my favorite things all year and I still remember doing it when I was in Kindergarten! All week we read different gingerbread man books. Then on Friday, we planned to have gingerbread men for snack, but they ran away! Luckily, they left us clues so we could chase them around the school. My kids were so into it!

Here we are looking at the library door! The clue is at the top of the door.

Finally, the clues led us back to the classroom where we found our gingerbread men!

We had to hold them super tight for a picture!!!

It was a wonderful  (and exhausting) first week of Kindergarten!I'm so grateful for the long weekend to rest and play catch up! Have a wonderful weekend! : )

Welcome to the Circus and School Supply Organization

I thought this day would never come! My classroom is finally ready for Kindergartners to arrive! I am excited to show you these pictures. I apologize because the quality is not great : ( I have been wanting a new camera for a while now, but I was holding off in case I was lucky enough to win the Blog Hoppin scavenger hunt. Bummer! Now I'm waiting for Christmas..hint hint Santa...

Welcome to my Classroom!

Here is your view from the door!

My calendar area.

My white board with center choices, table points and lunch graph. The Number Line Math is from my latest funded Donor's Choose grant. I can't wait to add it into my daily routines!

Here is a close up of my cute cubby labels:
I packed their name labels on 4x6 polka dot scrapbook paper. It really brightened them up!

Daily 5 CHAMPS and T-charts. My word work center is right below. Students take the tub then find the corresponding colored circle in the room.

Popcorn Words! Thank goodness for my brother the architecture major. He got my popcorn buckets lined up perfectly! The colored pieces of paper are labeled by each six weeks. I am going to post a picture of the kids who are in the Popcorn Words Club that six weeks. You can be in the Popcorn Words Club by learning all of the taught popcorn words AND you get a popcorn and juice snack! SO EXCITING : )

Classroom Library : )

I am really excited to have a nice, big writing center this year! We will add a writing ideas anchor chart in a few weeks and then a chart of our classroom friends soon.

What's under my curtains? Dun...dun...dun...

 Drawers for guided reading materials

Other things we use all the time...

Can you tell how much I love the polka dot pencil graphics from Ashley Hughes?

This week I have also been busy organizing school supplies! In the hallway I put brown paper sacks labeled with each child's name. When they bring their supplies, they put them in the bag and then bring the bag into the classroom. It is really helpful so nothing gets lost or confused!

I even assembled school boxes! I clear package taped crayon boxes in hopes of them holding up!

I also gave out my little beginning of the year gifts to my team...

Microphones are so much fun!!!! I found the play glitter microphones at the party store and then just added a cute label. I think this would be a fun accessory for calendar time, the weather reporter, or even for first day introductions!

T-Minus 3 days until the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! : ) I can't wait to get this school year rolling. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Teacher Week: When and WINNERS

Yesterday I had my Beginning of the Year conferences! It is such a fun day meeting all of my new Kindergartners! I was at school almost 13 hours yesterday! I was so exhausted and couldn't find the energy to participate in Blog Hoppin Day 3 : ( But, have no fear! I am back for Day 4

This year I changed around my Daily Schedule a little bit to make sure I had enough time to fit everything in! It seems like there is never enough time to get it all done! And I have a super long day compared to many of y'all!

I am going to work really hard this year to try and use my Conference Time to really plan and get things finished! I love visiting and planning with my team, but I feel like I need to lock myself in my room instead! You'll also notice in my schedule that I try to break up whole group and center time. I think this helps my kids stay focused and engaged! I use GoNoodle during transition times. I can't wait to use all of the new brain breaks this year!

In other news, Miss Lexi Berry had her first trip to the groomers today! Look how precious she is...

I just love her to pieces! And I love the groomer to pieces for getting not one, but TWO bows to stay in her hair!

And now for the giveaway winners...

Congratulations Katie and Lori! I will be emailing you soon with details! : )

Teacher Week: Who

It's Day One of Blog Hoppin's Teacher Week!

Today's topic is WHO, so I'm going to tell you a little bit more about myself! I recently updated my About Me on my blog page, so I will try not to repeat myself! : )

My name is Sarah and this is my THIRD year teaching Kindergarten in Texas, hence the blog name. I am 23 years old. I graduated from Texas Tech University and love the Red Raiders! I went into college with 30 hours from high school and I knew what I wanted to do, so I was out in 3 years! I accepted my first teaching job 3 months after my 21st birthday. CRAZY! I literally landed my dream job right out of college, which was so amazing!

Here I am Graduation Day on the football field! : )

Here I am headed to my First Day of School as a teacher!

I actually started this blog back in 2011 when I was student teaching. I wasn't sure what I was doing, but I wanted to colloborate and connect with other teachers. Plus, posting pictures and ideas helped me be a better teacher and made me excited to create! I kick myself all the time for not posting more! I love going back and looking at things I did in my classroom in past years.
This year I am going to do way better! : )

I have been so blessed to be surrounded by wonderful teachers! This is a picture of (most) of my Kindergarten team last year on the 100th Day of School. This was one of my favorite days the entire school year!

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my friends, family and furbabies. I love reading other teaching blogs and pinning away on Pinterest. I wish I had more time to craft and read. Here are 10 other random things that you may not know about me!

Thanks Amy Lemons for the cute graphic!

See y'all tomorrow for DAY TWO!
